Abstract

The majority of the Muslims in Indonesia almost know only one style of qiraat (the Art of reciting the Quran) namely Nafi ‘an ‘Asim qiraat. This writing wants to explain that, historically, the Nusantara Ulama in the past had written and introduced other sytle of qiraat to some ancient Nusantara Mushafs. One of the Mushaf is the Mushaf of the Sultan of Ternate. This Mushaf uses qiraat namely Qālūn ‘an Nāfi. This identification is explained by making the comparison of some words which become spot of difference between the qiraat of Hafs ‘an ‘Asim and that of Qālūn ‘an Nāfi‘. Although there are some lacks of the writings, however, in general, it can be said that the of the Mushaf of Sultan of Ternate uses the qiraat of Qālūn ‘an Nāfi‘. Abstract

In the last two decades, there are many violences done by the radical moslem groups, such as Al-Qaedah, Jamaah Islamiyah, and in the last two months, Islamic State of Iraq and Syam (ISIS) toward people or other Moslems groups, institutions, and government. Using the argument that they want to stand with the Islamic roles and to create political entity in the form of a single leadership (khalīfah), they do everything they can in the name of religion. In fact, almost all religions including Islam, teach their followers to spread the love (rahmatan li al-‘ālamīn) and love peace. Through a content analysis approach (content analysis) against the number of written documents, and against the Muslims groups causing violence, this paper will reveal their ideological foundations underlying attitude of the hatred toward other Muslim people. Furthermore, this writing will analyze their interpretation using thematic interpretatation method (mawdū‘iy) by means of collecting religious texts (verses and hadith) and analyzing them to be an integrated parts. This religious study is also expected to reveal the basics of their radical ideology known as “ hatred groups” which eventually lead to the act of violence. Abstract

Before the presence of the printing mechine in the early 19th century, the multiplication of the Qur’an was done through the process of copying manually in many places in Indonesia. As a result of the process of that traditional copying are the happening of some mistakes in the process of copying, the innovation and emergence of various differences among the mushafs. Some research that have been done show that the differences occurred in the aspects of the art of writing (rasm), the sign of reciting, the material of the paper, illuminations and many other aspects to mention. This writing studies six ancient mushafs originated from the province of Jambi. It is through philological and codicological approaches that some characteristics of the Mushaf of Jambi can be clearly identified. Some identification forinstance are the use of the rule of rasm imlā’i, the variation of waqaf and the rule of reciting the holy Quran (tajwīd), the illumination motifs and the completion of hizb.Keywords:Quran manuscript, rasm ‘uṡmāni, rasm imlā’, ilumination.

Abstract

This writing studies the uses of rasm, qiraat, the sign of reading and the sign of tajwid, as well as the sign of the division of the text in the four Quran manuscripts available at the Museum of the Institute of PTIQ Jakarta. In this writing, the writer tries to compare between one mushaf to another concerning the five problems mentioned above. Concerning the rasm, the writing will analyze if the mushafs being studied use rasm Usmaniy or imla'iy or the combination of both. As for the qiraat, the focus of the study is on the qiraat the copyist uses in the mushaf he has copied. The wiriting will also study the variety of the signs of writing, the sign of reading and the sign of tajwid (the science of reciting the Holy Quran) as well as the sign of the division of the text in those quran manuscripts. Abstract

As the center of Islamic civilization, the Qur’an receives numerous intellectual responses both from Muslim and Western scholars within history. One of the prominent names of Western scholars who deals very much with the Qur’an is Jane Dammen McAuliffe. This article discusses the ontological view of the Qur’an of Jane Dammen McAuliffe, within a context of a new growing interest of western scholarship to see the Qur’an. Applying phenomenological and analytical methods of analysis, the articles ends in conclusions: [1] Muslims’ views on the Qur’an tend to be theologically oriented, while the Westerns have resulted some polemical conclusions [2] however a new growing interest in the West, in which Jane Dammen McAuliffe belongs to, sees the Qur’an as a scripture, that emphasizes the importance of relation between the text and human’s belief in the text; the Qur’an and Muslims. Abstract

The most crucial issue in islamic heritance is inheritance formula 2:1 that assessed gender bias. The traditional interpretation claims that males always receive twice the amount of female shares. However, Syaḥrūr’s interpretation concludes that this verse can be understood dynamically and has alternative of interpretation. Syaḥrūr also complements the methodology with the tools of modern mathematic. This makes his interpretation be unique and wonderfull, but also controversial. Some people give praise and deep admiration, while others object and give him a bad reputation. This paper would like to analyze Syaḥrūr’s interpretation about inheritance verse 2:1 and than analyze whether the accusations to him is rights or wrongs. Abstract

The Issue of gender in family basically has become an interesting issue to study. It is because, in fact, the problem related to gender relations in family is often studied only from the theoretical aspect and is not fully implemented in practical life. Therefore, the role of the family law which is got from the understanding on the religious text as the guidance for the humankind becomes absolutely important to be studied and implemented continuously. In relation to this, it is necessary to study the thought Edip Yuksel, et all, the Muslim contemporary thinkers who translated and interpreted the Qur'an as they are reflected in their work: Qur'an: A Reformist Translation. A Renewal in the field of Qur'an interpretation and translation based on the principle of Gender equality (al-musāwāh al-jinsiyyah). Thus, the explanation about their interpretations concerning gender relation in the family as the issue studied in this writing is hoped to be able to give contribution in the study of family law in Indonesia.
